YOGA PREPARATION

OBSERVE FOLLOWING TIPS WHILE DOING YOGA:

  • Preferably wear cotton clothes while doing Yoga which allow skin to breathe and helps sweat to evaporate.

  • Do not aim at perfection in the very beginning becuase it takes great patience and perseverance. Benefits occur even if you cannot perform perfectly.

  • Start your Yoga with Shav asana which helps every nerve fiber, limb get deep relaxation and reduces pain, ache or uneasiness in the body.

  • Relaxation is very important while performing different asanas therefore at the end of each asana repeat the Shav asana.

  • Perform each asana slowly and carefuly maintaining rhythm of your breath, and posture and co-ordination of muscles with joints as per capacity of your body.

  • The movements during the asanas practice should be slow, smooth, steady, rhythmic and graceful focusing on your breath all the time apart form alignment.

  • You must try to keep your body steady when in pose.

  • Make progress slowly but steadily, paying attention to the details of every asana as each movement counts in the asanas.

  • Each time you perform, try to improve your performance over the previous day’s practice increasing the length of asana a little more than before.

  • Do not use any artificial support or apparatus because the best limit is decided by your own body.

  • Do not rush to perform all asanas in a hurry, to complete them together or to cover them up on the same day. Rather go slow and steady enjoying every movement for better results.

  • The effectiveness of an asana depends upon your devotion and the degree of how focused you are at that moment to acts of that asana.

  • You daily asanas should be well balanced. Omitting one or the other is fine but do not omit the basic warm up movements and basic asanas along with final relaxation.

  • Always breathe through your nostrils and don't keep the mouth open while performing asanas.

  • To measure the time or acts of asanas keep counting audibly when in pose which will help release the negative pressure built up around lungs and heart.

  • Avoid performing Yoga while suffering from fever or any other serious illness (e.g. spinal injury, bone fracture etc). Be also careful while doing yoga in case of other illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, migraine etc

  • Give 3-4 hours gap after major meals and 2 hours gap after a light breakfast and ½ hour gap after tea/coffee before doing yoga.

  • Drink lots of water when performing Pranayama (breathing exercises) because it consumes water in exhale.

  • Wait for half an hour after yoga session before you take a bath/shower.

  • Never perform Yoga while watching TV etc. because in that case you can never maintain focus on breathing and body alignment.
