GARUD ASANA OR THE EAGLE POSE

Garud means the bird eagle. In the final position of this asana body frame looks like Garud or the bird eagle hence this Asana is named as Garud Asana or Eagle Pose. This is one of the standing poses of Yoga Asanas. This Asana ultimate goal is to train the mind for higher flights of spirituality. This Asana also aims to obtain harmonious development of internal organs, various muscles of the body, nerves and the frame. The idea is to conserve energy, as you perform this Asana. Garud Asana, though looks a difficult posture but with regular practice it can be done easily with great benefits.

TECHNIQUE

Stand with ease and comfort.
Garud, Asana

Remain tension free and relaxed. Keep in mind that it is not a tough pose to practice.

Raise the right leg in front and take it round the left leg thus making a twist.

Take the right hand over the left hand, in the form of a curve.

Join the palms of both the hands. Let the joined palms be right in front of your nose as you exhale.

Press the thigh as much as it is comfortably possible.

Stay in the position for some time and then come back to normal standing position.

Repeat this Asana on the other side as well and stay in the position for some time and then come back to normal standing position.

Do not perform this Asana if you have problems of spine and severe backache.

Pregnant woman must not do this Asana.

Stay in the final position as per your capacity and do not force yourself.

Do not do this Asana for more than a minute.

Initially, you need not hold your breath while doing the asana

BENEFITS

Though many people do not like to practice standing yoga Asanas as they find them tough. But such Asanas provide great benefits to the body because when you stand, there is a perpendicular traction.

Garud Asana takes care of the problems of the lower part of the back likeback-ache and slipped disc etc.

This Asana also strengthens nervous system.

This Asana also cures problem of trembling of hands.

Doing this Asana regularly helps fight tiredness often caused by prolonged walk or standing.

This Asana also is good cure for foot ache and it also prevents tumor in that particular area.

The problems in the anus and urinary region are also taken care of by this Asana.

This Asana also prevents the enlargement of hernia and testicles.
