The name given to every Asana derives its inspiration from nature. Seeing as this pose happens to look like a downward facing fish. Hence it is known as Adho Mukha Matsya Asana. The common feeling is that both the Adho Mukha Matsya Asana and the Matsya Asana are destroyers of several diseases.
TECHNIQUE
Sit on the floor in Padma Asana with cross legged the bottom portion up.

You may also squat on the floor in Swastika Asana.
Bend forward and lay down stretching your hands.
There is external pressure on the stomach.
Remain in that position as long as you are comfortable.
Come back to Padma Asana or Swastika Asana.
Repeat two more times.
